Salicylic Acid 2% Peel 30ml
Salicylic Acid is the main ingredient in a lot of products designed for oily, problem skin and has been known to help the following conditions
* Blackheads & whiteheads * Enlarged, blocked pores
* Over production of sebum (oily skin)
* Bumps under the skin (trapped oil)
What makes our salicylic acid unique is that it's not diluted with a large list of ingredients and it has a low, acidic PH of 3. This product can be used as a rinse of treatment or left on overnight under moisturiser.
Salicylic Acid is the key ingredient for restoring purity and clarity to the skin. It is a highly effective chemical exfoliant and an excellent pore cleanser. It works by gently removing old cells from the skin, and can also help to boost collagen production. Salicylic Acid has an anti-inflammatory effect, making it useful for anyone with breakouts and redness.
Because salicylic acid has a larger molecular structure to Glycolic Acid it stays on the surface of the skin longer giving it fantastic pore clearing capabilities. It has been found that Salicylic Acid is effective with as little as one-fifth the concentration typically found in products containing Glycolic Acid, which is why a lower percentage works so well.
If you suffer from Dry Skin, Sun Damage, Pigmentation, or Premature Ageing please take a look at our Glycolic Acid or Lactic which would be a more suitable treatment.
Salicylic acid is one of the only products known to work within our pores, perfect for reducing breakouts, blackheads, enlarged pores and whitheads. Salicylic acid is also anti-inflammatory and so helps with those red, inflamed pustules that typically appear on the jawline or cheeks.
How is this good for spots? Spots usually occur as hair follicles get clogged by the oil your skin naturally produces. Normally the sebum (natural oil in skin) travels up the hair follicle and out to the surface of the skin. However, when skin cell turnover is slowed, sebum can get trapped within the follicle, bacteria multiply within the clogged pores and so a spot is formed. Using this product regularly helps by removing the old skin cells and the grime that's blocking up pores so stops the spot cycle.
How does it reduce blackheads? Salicylic acid is oil soluble so it works through the oil and goes straight in to the pores, clearing out the blockage at the entrance of the pores, each time you use it, it clears more and more of the blockage shrinking the blackheads and pores with each treatment. The acid also helps to remove the top, dead layers of skin which cause the blockages and can help to regulate oil production making your skin less oily.
Is this different to a 2% salicylic acid cream? Yes this product is stronger, creams are diluted with lots of different ingredients, they also generally have a higher PH which makes the acid a little weaker. This product is a thin liquid, allowing the acid to reach within your pores, helping to break down any blockages which in turn will tighten the pores.
Will my face be sore and peeling? There is a possibility that you may notice some light flaking or dry patches when you first use the salicylic acid. You may experience some redness but this will fade within a few hours. You skin may also feel slightly itchy after a treatment, this is perfectly normal as it's part of the regeneration process.
Note: If you're worried about having sensitive skin then you may find that you can still use this product, but do conduct a patch test first. If you are pregnant/breastfeeding, allergic to asprin or are worried that this may not be suitable for you then take a look at our Dermaflannels which give very similar results. If you are on medication, consult your doctor before use.
Distilled Water, Salicylic acid, Propylene Glycol, Hexylene Glycol, Sodium Citrate, Sodium Hydroxide.
Before you buy Salicylic acid is not recommended if you're pregnant/breastfeeding. If you are undergoing any kind of intense beauty treatment (microdermabrasion, glycolic acid treatment, laser therapy etc) consult your therapist before purchase. If you have any broken veins/capillaries we recommend avoiding these areas. If you're on medication which increases the skins sensitivity or causes severe dryness we do not recommend acid based products during treatment and for 12 months after your course has been completed. People who commonly have cold sores may find that chemical peels can cause an outbreak of cold sores and may want to take their medication before use or avoid use altogether, do not apply acid products to your skin while you have an active cold sore.
Salicylic Acid may increase your skin's sensitivity to the sun and particularly the possibility of sunburn. Use a sunscreen and limit strong sun exposure while using this product and for a week afterwards. Do not use sunbeds while using products containing glycolic acid or salicylic acid.
